SCIENCE AM & PM (1-3)  -  Lenora Flink

Description:

This year in Science we will be using Adventures in the Physical World: Level 2 from MasterBooks. Here are some of the main topics we will be exploring:

- energy

- force

- simple machines

- matter

- astronomy

- meteorology

- geology

The topics will be covered at an introductory level, which will allow time for learning how to do experiments and activities in class! Each week we will go through a lesson and answer questions, then the students will do an experiment, either individually or in groups.

The classroom supply fee will cover a notebook for each child and supplies for the hands-on experiments that will be done in class.

Optional: Parents may purchase a copy of the book from MasterBooks.com if they would like to follow along with the course and incorporate these topics into their homeschooling.

It will be a very fun and engaging class and I’m excited to be teaching your children next year!

EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE - INTERMEDIATE LEVEL (6th - 8th) - Liz Erickson

Class Description
This class is meant to help students discover the science behind things they experience every day and introduce them to a wide variety of subjects. Through these hands-on experiments, we will begin to look at the physics of movement and energy, the biology of the plants and animals around us with some basic dissections, elemental chemistry and how we use it and how we see earth science around us tides and gravity. We will be focusing on the experimental method, how to run an experiment, and how to document their experiments. Weekly experiments in class will also include optional follow-up experiments on the topic that students can continue at home throughout the week.

Expectations
Students enrolled in this course will be encouraged to display their favorite experiment, from in class and at home, at the Winter and Spring Showcases. Students are expected to participate respectfully and work collaboratively in the classroom.

EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE - HIGH SCHOOL (9th - 12th) - Liz Erickson

Class Description
This class is meant to help students dive deeper into the science behind things they experience every day through a wide variety of subjects. Through these hands-on experiments, we will look at the physics of sound & light waves, biological dissections and organ identification, identifying unknown powders using chemistry and how to take, measure, and identify specimens in earth sciences. We will be focusing on creating experiments, group experiments, and documenting our discoveries. Weekly experiments in class will also include optional follow-up experiments on the topic that students can continue at home throughout the week.

Expectations
Students enrolled in this course will be encouraged to display their favorite experiment from hypothesis to observations, from in class and at home, at the Winter and Spring Showcases. Students are expected to participate respectfully and work collaboratively in the classroom.
