Writing Class Offerings
CREATIVE WRITING & STORYTELLING (2nd-5th) - Cassidy Hall
Description:
Everyone has a powerful, God-given voice, and putting that into creative storytelling is an impactful way to share with those around us. This class will focus on learning about what makes a story compelling and interesting, and how they can craft their own! We will explore fun storylines, characters, dialogue, and practice how to see a story through from beginning to end. Much of this class will be working on coming up with story ideas that can be shared through speaking or acting them out, and we will then work in some basics of how to write the stories down on a page! All levels of reading/writing are welcome, as I will meet the students where they are at, and grades will be given based on individual growth and effort! Anyone can be a creative storyteller, and everyone has a voice and story to share!

CREATIVE WRITING (6th - 8th) - Cassidy Hall
Description:
Everyone has a powerful, God-given voice, and putting that into creative storytelling is an impactful way to share with those around us. This will be a fun introduction to creative writing, and students will be encouraged to focus on exploring their voice and being creative in an encouraging environment. In this class, students will learn about what makes a strong and creative storyline, how to create interesting characters, how to use descriptive language to bring locations to life, and how to add different emotions to their scenes and characters. We will also go over how to format a story, and work to strengthen vocabulary, and general writing sentence structure and punctuation. Homework will consist of a short assignment each week to build on the class concept; we will then have a few longer assignments later in the year to put together full stories! Students will be met at whatever level they are at, and grades will be given based on individual growth and effort. Anyone can be a creative writer, and everyone has a voice and story to share!

CREATIVE WRITING (9th - 12th) - Cassidy Hall
Description:
Everyone has a powerful, God-given voice, and putting that into creative storytelling is an impactful way to share with those around us. In this class, students will learn how to craft strong story arcs, unique and relatable characters, and imaginative descriptions within the forms of flash fiction and short stories - as well as with a dash of poetry and creative non-fiction. Each class will include writing exercises to delve into creative ideas, as well as to practice writing concepts such as the use of metaphors, similes, alliteration, exposition, flashbacks, foreshadowing, imagery, and motifs. We will also discuss, and put into practice, how to write in different points of view, and how to write compelling openings and powerful endings, giving the students the opportunity to really find their own creative writing style. Students will have a writing assignment each week, and will finish the year with many completed works, including a full 4,000 - 5,000 word short story! Students will be met at whatever level they are at, and grades will be given based on individual growth and effort. Anyone can be a creative writer, and everyone has a voice and story to share!
